That's it, the Porcupine Passage. There's a chapter in the Blue Spring book with Jim Smith's account of the bolt climb.

Mystery Hole showing the bucket early explorers were lowered in.
It only takes one person to surrender a dog to a kill shelter ,but it takes many to rescue it.

It is a cool sight, and to think that tourists were lowered 300 feet in that basket is really scary.

This is a well known pit . Any Indiana vertical caver should know this. Also has ample horizontal passage on bottom ( that should narrow it down) and sits close to another Indiana pit with horizontal ( narrow it down more).

King Leo Pit? Haven't seen it since the '72 convention.

Not King Leo but you are geographically about 1200 feet away on the surface. Passage from this cave crosses passage in King Leo but so far no known connection.

You got it. For those who do not know Hell Hole is 100 feet deep and has over a mile ( maybe two, not sure) of mostly crawl passage. Recently local cavers opened a second pit entrance into hat dome area on the opposite end of the cave from the entrance in the photo. I think the second hat dome entrance is around 80 feet or so. Nice Pit and nice area with King Leo , Sietz Pit also in the same area. You are up A Coward, I was beginning to wonder if I am the only Indiana vertical guy on this forum.

I hear ya Jeff. The pits of the Hoosier State are underrated and underappreciated. My first vertical cave was King Leo.

This is a locally well-known and often-visited cave near a major highway. You park at a Texaco station and walk right up the hill...

Its position above the road kind of reminds me of El Abra in Mexico, right above the inter -american highway on the way down to Golandrinas. I suspect this is not it as I do not remember a Texaco station.

Not El Abra. All gas stations in Mexico are Pemex, so correct about the no Texaco there.

You didn't say which region the cave is located in, but it has a Puerto Rico look to it. Ventana?
