Hemlock Cliff (Hoosier National)

Postby BigPappaSmurf » May 18, 2010 12:22 am

I am told about how beautiful Hemlock Cliff is in Hoosier National Forest. I would like to go when I can get some good photos of the waterfalls. I am assumming that the two good times of year would be Spring and Fall after the rainy season. Can someone please confirm this or inform me a good time to see this. If you've been what direction are you facing looking at the water falls? That would help me know what time of day to go also.

I've been there and don't remember any waterfalls worth noting. There may be some water trickling over the sides of the canyon, but not all that much.

Hemlock Cliff's is an awsome place to visit. The question is, is how close do you live from there? The main shelter cave looks out to the south, so if you were standing in front looking at it you would be facing north. If you want to catch water coming over the waterfall, it is best to catch it after a good summer T-storm / rain. The winter offers some nice photo opertunitys too, with some nice ice hanging down from the top too! They have redone the trial from the parking area which makes for a nice small hike, (less than a mile in and out). I also suggest you visit mesmers hollow which is adjacent to Hemlock Cliff's. I believe it can be found on a topo map of the area. Hope this helps you out! Enjoy your visit there. Hope to get back up there myself this summer!
