Paint/Stain my new bat house

Postby YuccaPatrol » Mar 3, 2009 6:55 pm

We bought a really big and nice bat house from Bat Conservation International. I live in Birmingham Alabama and am not certain if I should leave it the natural wood color or if I should stain it darker? The location will receive plenty of sun in the winter and will be partially shaded but with mid-day sun in the summer.

Right now the house is a natural cedar color. Should I make it a bit darker with a stain or leave it as it is? :bananabat:

Leave it. The cedar will weather to a nice gray
I'm not scared of the dark, it's the things IN the dark that make me nervous. :)

Thanks! We've done our research and I am proud of the design I came up with for mounting it. :bananabat:

I have made a modular pole out of sturdy 3" PVC pipe painted with a flat olive green paint. It is secured in the ground with a couple bags of quick set concrete. The PVC connectors will be bolted together to ensure that it is solid but can be easily dissassembled if necessary.
