Bat names

Postby baa43003 » Mar 27, 2007 11:06 am

Since many species of mammals have specific names for the male, female, and young, I was wondering if there are names for male and female bats? I know that the young are called pups.

I love annimal group name trivia. Here are just a few of my favorites:
a float of crocodiles
a wake of buzzards
a crash of rinos
an ostentation of peacocks
a smack of jelly fish
a company of moles (also parrots)
a parliment of owls
a shiver of sharks
a quiver of cobras
a loung of lizards
a knot of toads
a convention of cavers (that one I made up)

It's only a murder of crows when they are flying.

Once they're on the ground, they're called something else.

Although I have no idea what.

Other wildlife names...

A pod of orcas...

A mob of wild horses...

A slop of cavers...

A splash of divers...

A splat of base jumpers...

Time to quit...

A group of crows on the ground is often called a storytelling, although crows in flight or grounded can be called both. Pheasants on the other hand are strictly a nide on the ground, and a bouquet once flushed.
