The mention of some caves in NW Georgia makes one wonder

This article in the Rome, Georgia newspaper makes one wonder about some caves in NW Georgia, coming with the WNS factor. :yikes: http://romenews-tribune.com/view/full_s ... =home_news
What with the problems the BOG has to be concerned with this weekend, in San Jose, I wonder how much further we can tolerate the factor of WNS and our declining membership in the NSS? Not saying that they are related-- - but something sure is affecting a decline in numbers. Hopefully, we'll see an increase of NSS memberships and/or re-ups, but...WNS going as far south as Ellison's and Pettyjohn's doesn't make for good PR. And, when the newspapers keep pointing out that cavers "might be" carrying the WNS spores, its a tough road to try and repair.

It is definitely tough, and has been for a while. WNS has not been kind to our membership. Access to caves, the ability to reach out and expose new generations to the marvelous resource that caves are, and build an awareness and conservation ethic around them for the future have all suffered.

As the BOG considers its agenda and moving forward, addressing access to caves needs to be a tangible benefit that NSS members feel and receive, in my opinion.

Great thoughts, Peter! Sure wish there was an easier way of doing things, but...you're right on the money!
