Yep! The commercial airliner had a :bat sticker: flying back and forth, so read the link and visit the video.

Now suppose it carried G.destructans, and suppose it traveled on the flight to its destination. Or suppose it was on a flight from Europe to NY.... Hmmmm.

I watched that video the other day and allll-most posted it. But there was spectulation: bird? bat? It was hard to tell in the video. Certainly the fly space was confined, so the animal didn't fly "normally" no matter what.

It definitely was a bat, Barb! It surely wasn't one of those pink flamingos of yours.

An added post says "the bat was trapped in the bathroom". Sounds like they got a good look at the flying critter when it was stationary.

The only bird that can really be confused with bats are swallows since the way they fly looks similar. Though up close a flying bat looks rather silly.

i read an article today that everyone on board the CDC is asking them to be tested for rabies.

Where's the article, Wendy? Was it on the Internet? If so, could you put in a link? If in something else, a reference would be nice to turn to.

It is a good thing that bats don't move around by any means other than flying around, imagine the spreading of WNS across the ocean, could get ugly. But according to science, it doesn't happen, only humans spread WNS because we don't respect state borders like the bats do.

If the CDC wants everyone on the plane to be tested for rabies because of one bat they must think we cavers are a cesspool of rabies.

Since Wendy didn't put a link to her comment about CDC wanting folks on that plane to be tested for rabies :big grin: I finally found the time to go in and look for the article - http://xfinity.comcast.net/articles/new ... n.a.Plane/  "Article?" There must have been 75 or more articles.Whewee! Anyway, this is a pretty fair assessment of all the reads. :yikes:

It doesn't really matter whether that was a bird or a bat on the plane because the fact that a flying creature was on the plane is enough to prove that a bat, bird, or insect could easily have been on that plane or any number of planes. And it also proves that a bat from Europe could easily hitch a ride to New York and then escape to spread G. Destructans to America. But no.....the CBD says that cavers did it. IMHO, they are IDIOTS! :cavingrocks:

The fact that it was a big news story means it doesn't happen easily, but happened once, spectacularly.

That's it. Shut down all the airports. Require decon baths before and after each flight, with body cavity searches for smuggled bats....

Well, that's what the Bat Nazis would like to see.
