A great night for bats...

Postby VACaver » Jun 15, 2011 8:24 pm

...not so good for lightning bugs.

Just steped out on my deck to see if the usual couple of bats were out and about, and was surprised to see six!

The lightning bugs were out and the bats were going nuts! I've never seen them swooping so low in my yard.

Woo Hoo!

 Ha! My closest neighbor is just a tad over a half mile away. I live on 63 acres surrounded by several hundred more of nothing but forest and abandoned pastureland. No level ground anywhere as I truly do live in the hills. So I have more than just bats in my yard! Its like a game preserve here. My freezer stays full of fresh wildlife! No bats in there but it may have a rattlesnake or two. :big grin:

Yep in our yard too. They hang out in an old dead hollow oak tree during the day. Hope I dont give em WNS that used to be my vertical practice tree  . We using count 5 to 10 in the yard at or after dusk.

I've only seen one in my back yard between 9-10 PM and one down by the lake near my house around the same time. They're definitely out there though since there's a good bit of forest around and lots of barns and old churches around.
