As part of our grants program, The Dogwood City Grotto is hosting an educational event to showcase the various projects around the country that your contributions at the TAG Fall Cave-In help to support. We will have two speakers that will present on various topics of importance and relevance to today’s changing world of cave conservation and protection.
Jim “Crash” Kennedy, M.E., Conservation Biologist, Cave and Mine Resources Specialist with Bat Conservation International (BCI) will present “A Quarter Century of Bat and Cave Conservation”. Jim will highlight the many achievements that BCI has accomplished during its 30 year history including many cave conservation projects that he has been personally involved with during his 15 year tenure with the organization. Jim is also a Fellow and Life Member of the National Speleological Society.
John Lovaas, representative for the “Save the Bats Committee” of the Minnesota Speleological Survey, will present “Fighting for Cave Conservation in Wisconsin”. John will discuss the events surrounding the emergency orders issued by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources last year to exclude bats from caves and how they were able to influence the decision making process.
