The bat in that article doesn't look like a vampire to me. Here is an article with an image of a vampire:

I didn't think it looked like a vampire bat, either! Maybe a horseshoe nosed bat?

I guess they figure a bat's a bat???? Any picture will do.

Well, the "alt" text for the image on the BBC site says "Vampire bat captured in Brazil, 2005 ". :shrug:

It still wouldn't be the first time an image was messed up. I can't remember if it was the BBC or not (I think it was, as it's usually the only online news source I read), but an article about Obama I read online had a picture labeled and alt text'd as him, but it was clearly /not/ him. If they can get that wrong, seems easy enough to label a bat wrong.

there are several species of vampire bats. this one seems to have some white on the wings. possibly a White-Winged Vampire Bat (Diaemus youngi)?
