How to add an avatar to your posts

Here's the how-to for including an Avatar in your forum profile

There are a couple of ways you can display an Avatar in your profile (and in your posts). Choose whichever method best suits your needs.


Firstly, make sure the image you use complies with the forums rules, which for avatars are:-


Image must be no greater than 125 pixels wide by 125 pixels high. (see example below)




Image cannot exceed 8kb in filesize. - Applies when files are uploaded to the forum - see Methods 1 & 2 (if you link to an avatar stored in other web space, this limit does not apply)


Images can be animated

Method 1 - Upload to forum

This method works best for non-animated images because of the filesize limitations (animated gifs tend to be too large)

You must have an image that is less than 8kb for this method

Providing the avatar you have chosen meets the criteria above

Log on to the forum, and click on the link to your profile button (in the small blue buttons at the top).


Scroll down the page to the Avatar Control Panel at the bottom and follow one of the following 2 options.


If the avatar you wish to display is located on your computer, click the Browse... button next to 'Upload Avatar from your machine' and browse to it's location in the dialogue box that appears.


If the avatar you wish to display is located on the web, enter the URL to it in the box next to 'Upload Avatar from a URL'. (note, this is not the same as Method 2 below, the Avatar you choose here will be copied to the forums server)
Click on Submit

Your Avatar should now be displayed in the Avatar Control Panel. (It may take a few seconds if you have a slow connection and chose to upload from your PC)

Method 2 - Upload from an offsite URL

Providing the avatar you have chosen meets the criteria above the method is similar to adding a Signature Image

Upload the image by fidning the "Upload Avatar from a URL" box and entering the correct URL (web address) of the image.

That's it!

Method 3 - Link to offsite URL

Images hosted on other sites are not held to the same size and weight requirements as those uploaded to the forum.


Upload your image to ImageShack using the "Upload Image" button in the blue buttons above.


Then, make a note of its URL


Log on to the forum, and click on the link to your profile.


Enter the URL to your image in the space next to 'Link to off-site Avatar'


Click on Submit


Your Avatar should now be displayed in your profile.
