Old Timer just lurking

Postby scooterseats » Mar 28, 2010 6:17 pm

Greetings, I am an old timer that actively caved many, many years ago when I lived in Tulsa, OK. If I remember correctly my membership number was 12968? After leaving Tulsa and moving to non-karst areas I slowly drifted away from active caving and finally let my membership expire in the early 80's. While I still have the lure of the underground but I fully realize that my body would not allow the physical punishment that caving places on a person.
I do still love to read about caves and cavers and follow any story I find about them.
This forum seems to be a good avenue for these pursuits. Thanks for hosting, I look forward to following.

Welcome back. But, hey, 12986 isn't so old. Well, unless you joined in grade school.

Join the NSS again so you can read stories of great caving every month in the NSS New!

Hi, Ross, Yep, 12968 is your NSS# and you joined in 1971. We have the data from the original NSS# ledger books.

I'm curious to know....when did 11906 join? Is there any way for members to check online? If not can you answer my question Phil? Regardless of
the date, I will always regret not joining sooner so that I could have had one of those FOUR digit numbers. I could have had one. Procrastination
cost me.

11906, JH, joined in 1969. These log book entries are not online, but exist in the membership database in the NSS Office.

Thanks Phil. I knew it was a long time ago. Had I joined one year earlier I might have gotten one of the four digit numbers. I was caving long before I joined
the NSS.

I was caving before 1967. #9999 would have been a good number to have. I should have joined the NSS two years earlier. :big grin:
