Hello all! I’m new to the whole concept of caving and looking for guidance on where to start. Any suggestions?

Hi Jessie,

Welcome to the forum. If you read this in time, the Central Connecticut Grotto (CT's chapter of the National Speleological Society) is having their annual holiday party TONIGHT (Tuesday) in Farmington. All are welcome. Details here.

Hi Jessie, I'm a Connecticut native who didn't discover caving until moving to the Ozarks. There are definitely lots of wonderful places within a reasonable driving distance of you, and the first step is to get yourself involved with an NSS grotto. I believe the CCG also does fairly routine trips out of the northeast to some other interesting karst regions as well. Welcome to the board!

You're telling me! I'm from the New Haven area and lived in CT all my life. When I was 25, I moved to Arkansas, which is basically made of swiss cheese so far as I can tell. I lived here for 2 years without doing any caving; then, while visiting friends in Connecticut, they took me to Tory's Cave (which I believe is the only solution cave in CT). After coming back home to AR, it took me a month before I realized that, uh, I could totally be doing that here.

To think I wasted two whole years here, NOT caving!
