I dont' drink nearly as much when it's cold out as when it's warm. But I'd want *some* water. And in Roppel, I'd want minimum 1 liter, but that seems slight.

I've never seen such imbibing as from British cavers. Geez!

Even when caving in Thailand a couple of years ago. where it is much warmer than here (mid 70's underground), we didn't bring water underground with us. Maybe it's just a UK/US thing?

We have an annual caver's get together for a week-end called Hidden Earth which is held in a different location in the UK each year and the organisers always warn the management of the venue chosen to ensure that they get extra beer in above and beyond what they would expect for the numbers expected - after all we're talking about cavers!

It has happened a few times in the past where recommendations were ignored (they probably thought it was an exaggeration) and the bar was drunk dry by Saturday evening...
