Agree.... MM and local grotto is your best option. However, years ago I was in the same place with the same predicament ... found my way to Mojave National Preserve, approx. 60 mi. NE of the base. At that time the caves were open and you could explore them on your own. The rangers were very helpful and provided directions AND contact info for local cavers.
