Hi Everyone!

Hey, my name is Bobby Davis. Im 18 years old and im originally from Fairmont, WV. When I lived there I was introduced to caves by my uncle who took me to a commercial cave with a "wild" section. I fell in love with it but I had no idea about abundance of caves throughout WV. I had heard of a cave near my area and went there. Needless to say I was very unprepared and wound up lost and with multiple scrapes and bumps on my head. Only after meeting the Mon Grotto and going on a trip with them did I realize how stupid that was for me to do. Since then I have been caving around 10-15 times but always in the same two caves. I started going to the meetings and was already to join. But I ended up joining the Marine Corps. Now im stuck out here in the desert in CA with no caves. It realy sucks because just as I was starting to get into it, i was ripped away. Im leaving this place in a month and a half, hopefuly to somewhere more caver friendly.

Anyways, thats my introduction. :waving:

Bobby

They are pretty nice people. There are alot of older guys who you can learn alot from. Ive been reading there meeting reports and they said they are trying to get some "new blood" in the grotto.

Where in desert? Have you checked to see if there is a grotto nearby? Don't forget you can use the 2005 Members Manual with the folks by state and you may find a caver or two that lives nearby. It can sure make those 8 hour caving drives easier.

This will help you narrow the search if you don't have a Members Manual.

Im in Twentynine Palms...Its in the Mojave Desert. The closest grotto to me is the Desert Dogs. But from what I heard they only explore abandoned mines..I dont think there are ANY caves out here :hairpull:

And that works. years ago (I don't want to say exactly HOW long ago) an NSS member travelling the country on motorcycle looked up members in the Hudson/Hedelberg Grotto and RPI grotto, made a few calls and joined us for a Friday Night caving trip with the RPI Outing Club. Great time was had by all.

I have actually been there. There are caves west of Vegas and you are no that far from some good California caves. You need to hook up with some local NSS Members. Are you an NSS Member? The Members Manual is an invaluable resource for cavers looking for other cavers. I would be willing to bet there is a good chance an NSS members either lives in or near 29 Palms.
