Reads Lake cave Chattanooga

Postby captncavemantn » Apr 30, 2013 10:20 pm

Hi Im new to this club and I have been trying to find out about a cave I explored as a kid back in the 70s. It was a rather large cave or it seemed to be since I was only about 12 or so at the time. It was located off Reads Lake rd close to Mountain Creek rd.

I was told at the time it ran a great distance and had another opening miles away. Since this time though they have completed hwy 127 which runs over it and I was wondering if it had been closed or just forgotten about. I would appreciate any information regarding this site and thanksin advance for the help.

Have you contacted the Chattanooga Grotto? They are very active and I am sure they would know the answer to your question.

Call Butch Feldhaus at (423) 238-7009 or email them at:

grotto@chattanoogagrotto.org

Better yet, go to some of their meetings !!!

It's listed in the TCS as being 1,00+ feet with a walk in entrance. I haven't been there and cant find my TCS map book to check for a map so this is all that I have been able to find out about it.
