Hi from California

I've been lurking around on here long enough it's probably time to say hi.

My name is Hans and I'm in the heart of far northern California. I started out caving with my Dad at a fairly young age, but as time went by the time spent underground by either of us dropped off to almost nothing. He lost contact with the grotto and most of the cavers, and I went through most of my schooling (and later work) not thinking much about caves or caving. Then, about 5 years ago, my wife and I took a trip to Lava Beds National Monument.... and I was hooked again. Spent a few years revisiting some of the caves I had seen as a child, pulling my wife and two of my best friends along. We ended up getting in contact with the local grotto about 3 years ago and decided to join them and, later that year, I joined the NSS.

When I'm not working at one of the local Hospitals, I'm usually trying to find time to go caving. When that doesn't work out, I like to spend my time camping, bicycling, hiking, geocaching, reading and just being a big kid (at least at heart).

As a side note, I was talking to my Dad about the local grotto and caving the other night and he said he thought it was funny I was getting into all the stuff he was into at my age and he was kinda worried about my safety, like his folks worried about him. I told him not to fear, I'm making all the same friends he did when he was my age. His reply: "Now I'm really worried"

Welcome to the forum, Hans. :waving:

Tell the old SAG foks I say hello. I was a member back in 2005 when I lived in southern Oregon. Had fun surveying at Lava Beds with CRF. :kewl:
