transplanted NY caver

Hey everyone!

I took a caving class in college a couple years ago...best thing I've ever done - I'm hooked! We did a lot of trips in the Catskill/Shawangunk/Hudson Valley area of New York. However, I just recently moved to the Portsmouth, NH area for school and the caving here seems to be non-existent. In fact, I've found myself spending more than one long weekend driving 5 hours back to NY to get my fix.

Yep, no caves in Portsmouth, NH

Your NY caving didn't mention some of the best areas in Albany and Schoharie Counties. Check out the Northeastern Cave Conservancy at http://www.necaveconservancy.org. Some of the caves are open through the winter. There are also some good caves in western Mass. and southern Vermont - not too far for a weekend jaunt; and the Adirondacks have some, but farther away.

You might also head up the coast for some sea caves - a different sort of critter, but nonetheless interesting.
