Hi, my name's Cole. I'm a semi-experienced caver, generally venturing out to Maquoketa Caves for some fun, although they're closed now. :(.

Anyway, I'm excited to join another forum, but I have to admit I might not post regularly. :(.

Thanks,
Cole

My wife took me there on our 2nd or 3rd date when we started dating. She lived in Eldridge, IA.

I was born and raised in Davenport (and then Bettendorf) :big grin:

Welcome aboard. I live just outside of the Illinois Quad Cities, and so far have done all of my caving in Iowa and southern Minnesota. There's plenty to see and do around here if you don't mind driving some. :bananabat:

I really miss Maquoketa Caves. I could get a quick cave fix after work, or nice and early on a weekend morning. Wye Cave seems pretty unique for this area.

Speaking of which, are there any caves at the Mississippi Palasades State Park? I used to go rock climbing there back in college, before i got into caving. now that I am a caver as its too far to drive to go climbing, I have always wondered. I spent a little time there when I was at WEstern Ill Univ, but most of the time I stopped at cordova on friday nights to go racing at the 1/4 mile track there. Spent way too much awesome time at that track in my day, hehe.

If I recall, there were supposed to a couple very small crack-like caves there. I'm not sure I ever saw much there, though.

Hah, I used to spend my Sunday at Cordova. Sadly, my dad sold our race car before I was old enough to drive.

Chad, trying to get you to climb is like pulling teeth. At MP, there was/is Upton's Cave, a small cave south of Mud Wall. Just east of the Sentinel on top there was/is a gated crevice. Many moons ago (mid-late 80's, it was unlocked and I rapped in, it appeared to be a joint-fracture formed cave, and in the limited time I was down there (maybe 30 feet, or a little farther), it seemed to peter out and I didn't find any leads, plus I had an impatient person on top.
