Ultrasound/Other Location Equipment

Postby tdp1 » Apr 9, 2009 11:51 am

I am looking for a list of vendors that sell ultrasound equipment for location of caves. Price isn't really an object - we have found some neat caves on property that we own and want to figure out if there are any more. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

I'm no expert on this, but it's my understanding that environmental engineering/cleanup companies use large/expensive ground penetrating radar setups to locate underground voids such as buried oil tanks. I imagine they might also work finding caves, depending on the depth. You might try contacting some companies in your area to find out more, or maybe just start with a google search. Good luck.

A good, experienced caver can tell faster, and for free, if there are more caves on your property. What part of the country/world are you in? We can almost certainly get you in touch with a caver that knows the geology of your area.

Maybe you mean a seismic survey? I'm sure a million or two dollars would set you up with a thumper truck and a series of geophones. You could do it on the cheap with dynamite. Or hire a seismic survey team instead of buying the equipment yourself. I'm not sure it would be the best way to prospect for caves, but I'm just sayin'.

That looks like a resistivity device. There's also microgravity studies that can help.

WV caver, Jeff Bray, owns Maxwellton GeoSolutions, www.maxweltongeosolutions.com, and does microgravity investigations.
