Suunto Sight Orientation

Postby Scott McCrea » Mar 28, 2009 6:23 pm

You know the slots in the black, screw in sights that hold the lens? Which way do you set them? I have always had them vertical in the compass and horizontal in the clino. While putting the instruments back together today after cleaning (instead of caving), I switched up the slots. I think I like it better with compass horizontal and clino vertical. You can see more of the dial and reduce the risk of reading the wrong side of a number.

The hairline and the dial markings are not the same distance from the user's eye. The purpose of the slit is to put the user's eye, the hairline, and the dial markings all near the centerline of the instrument. You can turn the hairline horizontally, but you should be careful to take your readings when the hairline is in the center of the eyepiece. Do not let the hairline wander near the edge of the field of view.
