What are the symbols for pendants and stromatolites?

Are there any standard symbols for pendants and stromatolites?

I have seen a symbol for pendants that looks much like the Greek letter Upsilon.

I have not found anything for stromatolites.

Thanks - Bill Gee

Bill, the CRF manual that "we" use in Missouri doesn't have any notations for either. Usually when I see stromatolites, it is always a layer in the wall. I have yet to actually draft a map with them on it, but when I come across fossils on caves, imbedded in the walls, etc, I simply note it on the map.

A note is better than no note. Hope this helps. Take care Bill.

Hi Chad -

In this case the stromatolites are outcroppings on the ceiling.

Not my sketching - I am doing cartography from someone else's sketch. I could put a note on the map, but would rather use a symbol if it exists.

Another of my caving buddies has invented his own symbol for stromatolites. I could use his symbol. As long as the legend calls it out, there should not be any problem with it. This cave already has another invented symbol for stalagmaflats.

Bill, you certainly wouldn't be the first to make up a symbol. I wondered if they were protruding. The ceiling for miles in the Rimstone River cave is stromatolites, but they are flat so it makes the ceiling look like........tile actually.

If you are on facebook, find the NSS cartography group, much more traffic than here and im sure someone somewhere has a symbol for it as I know they tend to stick up like pillars in some caves.
