3D printing of caves maps?

Postby GroundquestMSA » Oct 13, 2014 8:23 pm

Surely someone has tried this? A relative recently purchased a 3d printer for use in building a prosthesis. While I lean toward traditionalist cartography, I quite like the idea of a physical plastic 3d model of a cave. The ability of cave mapping software to create a 3d file leads me to believe that such a model would be relatively easily attainable. Unfortunately, I don't have the technical knowledge needed to attempt such a project. Probably there are cavers out there who own a 3d printer, but if anyone has the skills for such a project but not the printer, I can probably get access to one.

An interesting idea indeed. Let us know how it goes!
