DUSI Documents & Files

Postby driggs » May 9, 2012 1:53 pm

I recall that Sean D'Epagnier had once pointed me to some of his technical documentation on digital compass calibration, but on searching for it, have found that both his original DUSI website and SparkFun's DUSI catalog page have rotted away from the Internet. I realize that there were many practical problems with the DUSI, but Sean's firmware and design was quite interesting, and I'd like to see those ideas remain available (even if neither the DUSI nor Sean are still available).

I'd like to mirror Sean's open-source DUSI documentation and files on a website so that they're still available; does anyone have a copy of these files they can send me so I can put them back online?

PM me or email: driggs at speleo dot us.

Update:

I've made all the Open Source DUSI code and assets available via a Mercurial repository at:

https://bitbucket.org/driggs/dusi/

If you have Mercurial installed, you can clone a local copy with the command:

If you don't have Mercurial installed, or just want to browse through everything, the above URL will take you to the BitBucket website hosting the repository.

I was able to build PDF versions of Sean's documentation, including the DUSI Data Sheet, and they're available at the "Downloads" link above.

Also, the NSS Communications & Electronics section website has an archive of the DUSI design docs (schematics, board layouts, and microprocessor .hex files, source code, and reference documentation) at:
http://www.caves.org/section/commelect/DUSI/
http://www.caves.org/section/commelect/DUSI/openmag/

I have them...somewhere around here...and I will send them to you...soon...sort of. I also have some DUSIs for experimentation or exploitation.

You can probably contact Sean via this site:

http://www.bristol27.com/bristol-specific/hull-sean

I do have an email address for him, but have not tried it recently. He did have all the DUSI software archived on a big code archive site that was unrelated to his webpage. That may still be there.

I don't see any contact info for Sean on that site; the specific page is his boat, but the general site appears to be someone else's website about that model of boat specifically. If you have a more recent email address than his "geckosenator" email address, could you please send it to me?

It turns out that the NSS Communications & Electronics section website has an archive of the design docs (schematics, board layouts, and microprocessor .hex files, but no source code or documentation) at: http://www.caves.org/section/commelect/DUSI/

Someone else posted at a similar time.

The source code is in the openmag/src/dusi directory.
The c file in there also has an email address for Sean.

Dave,

I sent you Sean's email. The geckosenator address has not worked for sometime. He did sent me an email with the new address when he dropped the old one.

Glad to hear that the stuff he did is still available. He was hoping that someone would pick it up and continue. He was most interested in the code rather than the hardware. I wish I knew as much at 19 as he did...

Dave,

Looks like everything I might have is at the link Kevin provided so I will stand down for now. If you need anything else to proceed, including DUSIs, let me know and we will find a way to provide it.
