I dont think there are any directions that I could give you that would help. When we completed the survey we took out all the survey tape and station markers, Leave no Trace. I got turned around sometimes and I spent @ 2 weeks in there. All I can say is its through the breakdown...
Though I will say that it was very unstable and collapses happened while we were working so there is a chance it closed shut again. The hanging ropes in the breakdown you speak of are maybe a 1/4 of the way, and just as a warning there are two VERY tight chest compressors that I heard cracked ribs on our trip. Have fun and good luck, and watch you dont get sumped in. There were some dead end domeclimbs in the large collapse room, maybe thats the stairway to heaven you speak of.

Oh, and that short blue or green rope you found in the breakdown, dont go up that, I didn't and heard it was a dead end.

OK, good. I thought that would require some moving of lots of mud. Is the way on under the short blue or green rope? That is what I hear.

I remember passing the rope everyday but I cant remember if it was below or whatnot. You can check out my video on Vimeo and see if you remember any rocks! The Monte Cristo Crawl begins as a floor level chest compressor, you will only see it if you get on your hands and knees and look under a ledge, or you notice our mine tailings.
