David,

I think he was referring to my link. The poster in that topic had found a map in Caves of Indiana, then came here, then the IKC, etc.

I knew which post he was referring too but I guess I didn't read it well enough since I didn't see that he found the map in e caves of Indiana book. That is a good book though but I might point out that no one complains about those publications which are available in most libraries, if you know what you're doing you can get locations from that book.

My main concern is not that someone searches and makes the proper contacts, rather someone that just gets their initial inquires with maps that take over their interest and becomes intent on finding the cave without going through the normal channels that can make the interest in training more important first. Many new cavers get into caving and happen to see some maps, and that is what they want to see, then the grotto or cave group gets them ready by what ever means available before their trip. This is what I say is the way it has always been, and it is what it should be. Most cavers that have been around for some time, find anything they need quickly because their competence is not generally questioned. I do know what you want here, but I just can not agree with the reasoning. :cave softly:

I've never agreed with LukeM any more than I do with his views on this topic. I second every one of his posts.
I am also eager to see the creation of this resource so that I can learn from other cartographers.

I just wanted to point out I made a mistake in my earlier post. The poll will end at 8:50pm EST. I was mistaken and thought the poll would run by default until midnight but I noticed on the poll itself it lists the poll as closing at 8:50pm.

Actually,

they stopped any future printings of caves of Indiana, and LOTS of the locations given in the book are off. Just FYI.

I don't see a 50% no, at best with all the undecided votes going to the no's they are still only at 44%. A final decision will be announced soon enough.

Some people insist on seeing the glass as half empty. In this case it's only 41% empty.

Since" probably" isn't a confirmation, actually it is 63% no, vs37%. that truly want it. Just to be scientific!

The probably in the two options should be easily understood that they are a yes. I added those two options to gauge how it would be used and to get an ideal of how many people would actually be willing to contribute. You would not answer that you would probably use it or that you would probably contribute to it if you were not in favor of it. That is why I made the no a simple option to show that you are against it.

"Scientific??"  That's quite some statistic-twisting you're doing there. Ever thought of working in politics, or for our friends at the CBD? :tonguecheek: :waving:
