Gazetteer style maps

So, I am embarking on a gazetteer style map (map broken into multiple pages.) I know there are very few of us out there doing this, but if anyone has done this- did you find it easier to break the map up in walls and then draw each individual page, or draw the whole map in Illustrator, and then break it up in Illustrator? Any tips on how this might work best?

Thanks!

Jason

Illustrator -> Print -> Setup -> Tile

or Therion -> Export Atlas ;)

Lilburn Cavern in Caifornia is a great example of the end-product for this type of survey. Also see http://www.caving.ab.ca/sites/caving.sp ... uard06.pdf

Wow- your link was fantastic- that is even more than I was hoping for- both a digital and print product- fantastic!

Who was responsible for the castleguard map? Dan Green and Greg Horne? I would like to set myself up for a similar project without too many dead ends, as I already use Walls and Illustrator, and have Adobe Acrobat.

Also, I see they used AI 10- I though you could only round-trip with CS2? Did this change? Have I been wasting my time with an archaic version of AI?

If anyone knows these two gents, could you pass a note to them indicating I have a couple of questions on how they made their map happen?

Thanks!

Will do; up to him if he wants to respond.

Jason,

You can roundtrip Illustrator cave maps with Walls using AI10, CS1, CS2, CS3 and CS4. I've tested CS1 and CS3.
