Ok

I am trying to save PDF's of a large map on illustrator 10 using the print function and PDF995. I once successfully saved a PDF this way by accident, but have been unable to reproduce the results. I am setting up page tileing to only make a PDF of the size (Arch-E )i want to print. When telling it to print with PDF995 i was told it would save it as a PDF, useing the PDF995 port in the settings. I tell it to print and it compiles for forever, and then locks up of finishes with out prompting me where to save the PDF. Any help would be appreciated!!!! Also, if i tell illustrator to save as a PDF it saves, but when you bring it up to look at it there is nothing there.

Thanks

Why not use Adobe's tech support/knowledgebase?

You must solve this problem with AI before you can even think about your "PDF995" problem.

John,

Make sure in your document preferences/artboard you are set to print "single full page" when you try and print. Otherwise, I think your file is trying to print the whole file to mutiple pages and you're either running out of memory, or not giving it enough time to finish (might take a looong time on that asthmatic laptop of yours). You'll probably have to redefine the print area for each sheet you want to print doing it this way though.

Why are we trying to print to PDF, does Illustrator 10 not have an option to save as PDF? Alternately, can an AI file be saved "with PDF content?" I'm a CS3/CS4 user so I'm slightly confused by the question itself.

It has a PDF save option, but when you save it and then go to view it, nothing is there, but a blank screen, the size of the artboard.

I use 10 regularly. To create a PDF file I use the "save a copy" command under the File menu. Then pick from a drop down the PDF file format. There is a dialog box that opens. Make sure you have settings the way that you want them and go ahead and save the file. You should be able to open this file with a PDF reader or with Illustrator.

I save to PDF regularly to nicely provide folks with an ability to snap layers on and off through Acrobat. I have several areas of Roppel that are very complex, and I have separated into layers that reflect levels. When viewing the map in Acrobat, it is a nice way to be able to manipulate what you see (all or just particular levels, and print what you want).
