Caves.org is changing servers
Last updated: Dec 26, 2006
The NSS is moving caves.org from ValueWeb to 1and1.
The move is targeted to complete by Jan 31st, 2007.
Current status:
Caves.org services already moved:
* email
* forums
* DNS
Services to be moved:
*web/ftp servers
* secure web server
What does this mean for you?
If you just use the caves.org website, email, and/or forums, nothing. The move will not affect you.
If you host your site on caves.org, your site will be copied to the new server, and you will be using a new FTP server with a new user name and password. You will find your new user name and password in a file called hosted.txt, which will be in your site's directory on the old server, ftp.caves.org. Sites are being copied across to the new server throughout January 2007. All sites will have their hosted.txt file by Jan 31st, though some sites may receive it well before then.
How do I know that my site will work on the new server?
As of Dec 2006, all sites are automatically synchronized from the old server to the new server, approximately once per hour. You can check on your new site, now, at http://hosted-www.caves.org/ (NOTE: After the move http://www.caves.org will be updated to point to the new server – the “hosted” prefix will be unnecessary).
What if I have a database on caves.org?
You will be contacted individually with a new user name, password and database server name. Your database will be copied across.
If you notice any problems with your site on the new server, please contact Josh Bailey, NSS IT Committee Chairman at webmaster@caves.org
