Your Board of Governors is very pleased to announce a new benefit for NSS Members.
If you’re going to be TAG caving near Huntsville, visiting the Huntsville Space Center, or just in the area, effective April 1, 2012 you will be able camp at the new NSS Headquarters.
The new NSS Headquarters offers over 20 acres of treed, grassy (mowed weekly), mostly level and well drained camping to NSS members. There’s water, flush toilets (no showers yet) and electricity….along with some caves.
Here’s the deal. NSS members and their immediate family may camp for up to seven days on the site with access to water and toilets for free. None-NSS accompaniers are welcome at $5/day. This benefit is for one-two tents/family. Large groups and grottos should contact the office to take advantage of the Member’s Group Rates which are substantially below the rates charged to the general public.
NSS RVers, may bring their rigs (we have 12 spots) and hook up to water and electricity for $10/day.
Here’s the catch. This is a very popular Huntsville site for Boy and Girl Scout camps and for family reunions. During the summer, there’s a good chance the grounds may be rented out for the exclusive use of one of these groups; especially on weekends. So, contact Stephanie Rubio (firstname.lastname@example.org
) or (256-852-1300) to make sure the grounds are open and reserve your spot. Doing this will avoid having you arrive and be disappointed and give us a chance to alert Mike at the gate, so you can arrive late in the evening if needed. If you’re already booked and a public rental comes along afterwards, we’ll make sure you have a nice secluded campsite away from the rental.
By-the-way, rental to outside groups really helps off-set the cost of the grounds and building—down the road, we’ll have an exclusive members-only camping area and member showers.
