problems with cavechat.org email??

Postby Carl Amundson » May 7, 2009 3:16 pm

Is anyone else having problems with their cavechat.org email address?
I keep getting the following errors when I send an email to my cavechat.org emal address:

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

xxxxxxxxx@cavechat.org

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 sorry, mail to that recipient is not accepted (#5.7.1) (state 14)

Jonathan, in my grotto, his cavechat email has been bouncing for the last day or so. That's all I know.

I have been posting to Google help on this issue and just received the following response:

cavechat.org does not have its DNS MX records set correctly to dirct mail to google.
They are currently going to smtp.secureserver.net. Contact the domain admin and ask him/her to fix the DNS settings.

Now how do we go about fixing this???

Don't know about problems logging into Cavechat gmail accounts, but it doesn't look like the cavechat.org dns settings are setup for google apps anymore.

cavechat.org MX 0 smtp.secureserver.net !!! cavechat.org MX host smtp.secureserver.net is not canonical
cavechat.org MX 10 mailstore1.secureserver.net

mail.cavechat.org CNAME pop.secureserver.net
pop.secureserver.net CNAME pop.where.secureserver.net
pop.where.secureserver.net A 64.202.165.92

update: oops. you posted while I was drafting this. Whoever admins the domain account for the NSS needs to update/revert the dns settings back to the previous values for MX records, mail.cavechat.org, start., etc.

Re: problems with cavechat.org email?? & auto login

Postby mgmills » May 8, 2009 10:58 am

Don't know about e-mail but for me the automatic log in no longer works. I keep checking the box each time I log on but each time I come here I have to log in again.

I'm pretty good with most computer software but not much of a computer guru when it comes to how computers operate but I did try deleting all my "cookies" just in case that was part of the problem but it didn't help.

FWIW, I've always used this URL rather then cavechat.org and have had no problems whatsoever.

http://forums.caves.org/search.php?search_id=newposts

Or I don't understand the problem.

Does anybody have any idea on which admin can fix the DNS issue with the cavechat/gmail?
My guess a change was made two or three days ago that needs to be rolled back.

For what it's worth, I pinged my cavechat.org gmail address yesterday and did not receive a delivery failure notice (yet).

However... I also just tried logging in at http://mail.cavechat.org/ and got a "webpage not available" message. Also the Google cavechat start page http://start.cavechat.org/ gives me a "does not exist or is not available" message. So it appears that whole system is down.

Phil - for info on the whole cavechat gmail thing, see this topic.

I assume that's a David question. I don't really use the gmail address, but I can imagine this might be a real PITA for those who do.

Emails are still undeliverable to the cavechat.org email accounts:

did not reach the following recipient(s):

xxxxxx@cavechat.org on Fri, 8 May 2009 17:58:36 -0000
The e-mail system was unable to deliver the message, but did not report a specific reason. Check the address and try again.
If it still fails, contact your system administrator.
<ashesmtp03.verizonbusiness.com (tcp-daemon) #5.0.0 smtp;550 sorry, mail to that recipient is not accepted (#5.7.1)>

When it's a DNS issue, check the whois record for the domain registrant...

http://whois.domaintools.com/cavechat.org

By the way, that's me...

So, I just happened to get bored this afternoon and started reading the forum... saw this thread... fixed y'all's problems... Of course, DNS may take 24-48 hours to resolve... for you geeks out there, the TTL is set to 1 hour for the subdomains of cavechat.org in question.

Now to clarify...
I fixed the MX records... That was easy.
As for the CNAMES... So far, all I caught was mail.cavechat.org and start.cavechat.org? are there any others that I need to be aware of?
