I'm only halfway through this book but it's a great read. So much detail. Seems like there are multiple pictures on every page along with plenty of maps. I'm also enjoying the historical perspective and the info on the gear that was used back then.

since publication of the book some of the leads mentioned have been pushed and 1 has led to an entirely new section of cave with over 3000' of new survey and with the current survey stopping in true borehole passage! Now there is the incentive I need for a diet :big grin:

Very nice. I'm still working on the book but for those interested pages 76, 82, and 90 mention places that might go that no one has been back to for years. The one on page 90 requires climbing gear.

I'm almost done with this book. Still really enjoying it. And I've lost count of the number of times I saw phrases like this- "No one has ever been back to check out that area." But I did highlight those sections.

LOL well some of those places they HAVE been back to now, but plenty still await...and yea, they all got put on the lead list :)

right now we are very close (in distance) to connecting, though when or even if that happens is still a question. The trip this weekend is taking a scaling pole to the area in a new very breezy dome to access an upper level opening. the passage had been trending good so far......

Well, I lost the book for a week or two. Just found it today. I'm up to page 300 out of 400. Still having a great time with the book. Nice "you are there" quality to the writing.

edit- is there something odd going on with the forums? My recent post didn't "bump" this topic back up towards the top. This book is awesome and deserves a "bump" in my opinion.

I am amazed that the current survey group is going every weekend and has been for quite some time, using wetsuits most of the time.I get their weekly posts and they need to be commended for their dedication to the project.Getting wet at the entrance during the winter- each weekend. This story goes on.

Since this book's publication last year, there has been an organized all out assault on the Sinkhole Plain. For the time being emphasis has shifted toward Blowing Hole Cave, as this is where most of the recent discoveries have occurred. Look for the article "51 Years Under the Sinkhole Plain" in the NSS News in Sept/Oct for an update.
