WOW, the new edition just arrived and it is a quality piece of "resurrective publication." Tina Oliphant has really done a great job of bringing four seminal publications into the 21st century.
It's no secret that the first four editions of Alpine Karst were quality publications, especially given they were produced in the era before desktop publishing and easily accessed Kinkos in every city. Ron Zuber and Jim Chester, who edited the Summer 1977 and Summer 1978 issues, contribute a lively two page article about the early publication process, including using an old Frigidaire freezer as a layout table (photograph included!). Chuck Pease, who edited the first two editions of AK also writes a short piece on his editorship. Tina Oliphant contributes a brief piece about her decision to include two Montana caving articles from Frank Binney's long-ago publication Inside Earth (a copy of which I fortunately own!) describing early efforts in Lost Creek Siphon, and the Scapegoat Mountain wilderness.
Look for my more complete review in an upcoming NSS NEWS.
The color covers are outstanding as well!
