Avoiding stupidity...

Postby JNT Exploration1 » Oct 2, 2008 1:44 pm

Most of us have at one time or another done something really, really, really stupid in our adventures underground and most of us are still around to share the experience with others. With that said I wanted to share a book that I believe is a testament to a lesson learned the hard way and it is a good entertaining read as well.

Looking back on my caving years (approx. 1957 to 1995), I recall some of the stupid things I've done. I've also seen stupid things others have done. Fortunately, we survived, pretty much unscathed, if perhaps a bit scratched up, semi-hypothermic and scared $hitless. We were lucky.
After awhile, I got smarter, but never fully cured, until I woke up one day and didn't want to go caving any more.
I attribute it to "Caving Delusions", in the pursuit of a fantasy. I'd write a book about these incidents, but it would be too heavy to lift.

Saludos,
Mike

I'll offer up some real stupidity. When I was 18, my best friend, her boyfriend, and his best friend deciding to go into Sheep Cave at Meramec State Park in the middle of the night. We were tripping acid and our only light source was a cigarette lighter. Enough said.
