Cave Notes (3 volumes) now available

Postby Wayne Harrison » Jun 27, 2007 8:54 pm

Cave Notes are now available. Cave Notes (in a set of three volumes) would make a fine addition to any grotto or personal library. The proceeds go to the protection and restoration of the Tumbling Creek Cave recharge area. Read below for further information. Please pass this e-mail on to local grotto and caver lists.

Thanks,

“Cave Notes”, subsequently renamed “Caves and Karst” was an important speleological and karst journal published by Cave Research Associates in California from 1959 to 1973. Through the kind efforts of Arthur Lange, longtime editor of the journal, and the estate of Raymond deSaussure, the Tumbling Creek Cave Foundation accumulated the remaining stock of back issues of this journal.

Only a few copies of some issues were available and these have been reprinted. After much collating and other work by Arthur Lange and the Foundation 100 complete sets of the journal have been compiled and are being bound into three hardcover tomes with a total of about 745 pages including indexes. The books are very attractive and informative.

An introduction to the newly available sets of the journal by William R. Elliott indicates that the issues contain 367 original articles, reviews, discussions, abstracts, bibliographies, news and editorials. Dr. Elliott concludes that this journal should be considered an important source by scientists and historians of speleology.

Hardbound sets of the complete journal are being sold by the Foundation for $200 per set plus $5 shipping and handling. The proceeds from these sales will go to the Foundation to assist in its cave and karst conservation activities.
