There had been talk of making the MM as an online feature to members only, and have it be password protected. I would have liked that.

Stu,

Have no fear. It has been discussed and it will not happen. There just isn't enough security on the net. Permission for single usage for our mailing list is the responsibility of the Executive Vice President. Even then I think we just supply labels and not data.

I got the Caving Accidents book a week or so ago but no MM.

Maybe thats the penalty I pay for switching to the "limited" membership :-)

This is the NSS Bylaw about Limited members:

(14) Limited members are at least seventeen years of age. These members do not receive publications, except as stated; but otherwise have all the privileges of Regular members.

(a) Limited members receive copies of Society periodicals no more than once per year, and such special publications or issues of periodicals as the Board of Governors may direct.

(b) Dues for Limited membership shall be set no lower than the amount which added to the cost of a subscripton to the monthly periodical of the Society equals the dues set for the Regular membership.

I like having it both ways. Always like to eat my cake and have it too. Don't like the cd idea...

Have to tell you that all the publications I get from
NSS are kept...I like the print format best and I'm
very thankful for all the great photography.

John,

You are supposed to get a Members Manual as a Limited member type.

That was my impression based on the NSS website (confusing "leaglese" bylaws be damned :) )...

Membership Categories & Annual Fees

Individual Members

Receive the monthly caving magazine, the NSS News; the scientific Journal of Cave and Karst Studies three times a year; the annual membership directory; and American Caving Accidents. Membership also entitles you to audiovisual and printed library privileges and NSS Bookstore discounts.

Which is followed by...

Limited 1 year: $15 2 years: $29 3 years: $42
(Over 17 years old, privileges of Regular membership, but without the NSS News and the Journal)

So if we do the subtraction then we are left with Limited members receiving the annual member directory and the ACA book.

All of that came from http://www.caves.org/info/membertypes.shtml.

Don't forget that both the Members Manual and the ACA are NSS News issues.

I agree the information is confusing. I believe we should clarify it for the membership, right Cheryl?
