The schedule for the next issue is under discussion, and will probably be decided at the upcoming BOG meeting. I have proposed that we publish the 2004 and 2005 reports in a combined issue in the Summer of 2006, and I expect that to be approved. If the financial situation permits, we hope to resume annual publication with that issue.
The current cost of printing and mailing an issue of ACA is about $8,500 for a one-year issue and $10,000 for a two-year issue. A three-year issue costs only about 10% more.
Publication expenses make up a large component of the Society's annual budget. The Society's financial situation has been rather lean for a while, and all departments have been asked to try to reduce costs. One of the chosen methods of cost reduction has been the publication of combined issues for the last three ACA's. This strategy has saved the Society more than $30,000 over the last five years.
Publishing the 2004 and 2005 reports next summer will put ACA back on schedule without sacrificing the savings achieved through the use of combined-year issues.
