Announced today on the NSS Facebook page....

"The NSS launched a new type of membership today: Regular Member who receives a digital copy of the NSS News. This membership is identical to traditional Regular Membership with regard to rights and privileges. The sole difference between the two is how members receive the NSS News. Those who fall into the new membership category will receive an e-mail on the first of every month containing a link to the NSS website for that month’s NSS News. For the initial launch, 1,000 Basic Members were upgraded to Regular Members and received the first ever digital NSS News.

See how it works and what it looks like at http://buff.ly/1xxTnZF.

If you’re a Regular Member of the NSS and would like to switch to receiving the News digitally, there are three ways to do it. First, you can wait until your dues renewal date, and make the switch then. Second, you can send a request to nss@caves.org. Or you can call the office at (256) 852-1300 to make the change. Please note that if you switch during your current dues cycle, we are unfortunately unable to offer you a refund.

Life Members will continue to receive the NSS News in the mail. All current NSS members will be able to access the digital NSS News at http://buff.ly/1xxTnZF.

Nicely written, Kelly, and I agree this is an extremely positive step the NSS has taken. Our membership structure has really restricted (and complicated!) us for way too many years. There are those of us who store our issues for years and then what? In my mind, when all is said and done the information gleaned is what is important. Whether it is data about caves or pictures of caves, that is what stays with us. If that information can be conveyed more efficiently via a digital/internet process then I am all for it.

Frankly, we are behind the times where this is concerned, but we are a deliberative body and that is a good thing. Thank goodness we don't have to show a profit.

Kudos to all involved in making this happen. :banana_yay:   :kewl:
