Big Bone Cave now available from NSS Bookstore

Postby Larry E. Matthews » May 8, 2006 12:25 pm

The NSS Bookstore just added the new Big Bone Cave book to it's website this morning (Monday, May 8, 2006).

This book covers the complete history of Big Bone Cave, Tennessee from it's use by prehistoric peoples for over 2,500 years, through it's use as the largest saltpeter mine in America during both the War of 1812 and the Civil War, up through the long, hard fight by the Nashville Grotto to have the cave and it's contents gated and protected. Today, Big Bone Cave is a Tennessee State Natural Area and is gated.

The cave also has a fascinating geological history and was the site of giant ground sloth skeletons, a Pleistocene jaguar skeleton, and Indian mummies.

The Big Bone Cave book is 226 pages long and has 103 illustrations. Price for NSS members is $22, plus shipping.
