April 2006 NSS News

Postby mgmills » Apr 22, 2006 9:15 pm

I just received my issue today. It is a good issue. I had heard there was a member insert in the News and as reported mine was there.

What I am curious about is my issue had obviously been sealed with a clear plastic dot (I suppose to keep the insert from falling out in the mail). However, mine had been cut before it was placed in the mailbox. I'm pretty sure this wasn't an accident because my hubby and a friend both receive their NSS mail at the same address. All 3 issues had the seal cut open (actually one issue had 3 seals on it and all of them had been cut).

I was just curious if this was a nationwide post office policy to open them or is is specific to my area? If the postoffice is going to open them anyway why bother to put it on in the first place?

Mine was open, too. Maybe they're just crappy seals that break by accident in the mail.

I don't like these stick-ons seals because they mess up the cover image if you try to peel them off, and they look bad if you leave them on. Mine was also open, it looked like it dried out and cracked. The insert page stayed in fine even with the broken seal, so basically you do not even need these stick-ons. I hope they never use them again. Of course. I'm kind of anal with my cave publication collection. ;)

I agree with you Tom - I've saved every issue I've ever received since 1994. This is the first time I've ever received one that had been sealed shut with the stick-on thingie. . . which is why I assumed (and yes I know the dangers of making assumptions) it was to keep the insert inside.

Mine was cut roughly but it was definitely cut; not cracked open accidently . . . there were three magazines received at this mailing address and one had 3 seals on it. All 5 seals were open. Guess "big brother" at the post office doesn't like magazines sealed shut.

Mine was also cut open with what looks like rough cut scissors.

Maybe homeland security is worried about all this "underground" activity. "Paranoia strikes deep. Into your life it will creep..."

Love that Buffalo Springfield.

Mine was also opened, and yeah it looked like it was cut as well.
Dunno what's going on here... Hope someone at the NSS Publisher's are paying attention to this thread.

If the seal on everyone's News, mine included was cut, the only reason I can figure is that the seals went on and then someone realized that there was an insert. They cut the seals to put it in.

Just guessing here.

I am fairly confident our copy was cut as well. Very interesting said with a german accent via Arte from Laugh In.

Mine was cut.

I've received several pieces of mail the last few months that appeared to have been intentionally opened.

Sigh.

Hmm, I didn't know the News mailer was going to do this. I'll let them know that we don't want them doing this.
