Every weekend hundreds of youth venture into caves and caverns seeking the excitement that we experience. Most go caving safely and with respect for the life and geology that we cherish and preserve. But there are some that don't. It's not because of arrogance as much as it is about ignorance. Those that I have talked to understand and develop an appreciation for what lies beneath their feet. They want to become the type of caver that the NSS would be proud to call a member.
The NSS Youth Group Liaison Committee (http://www.caves.org/youth) is need of longer arms to embrace these youth and their youth group leaders. We are in need of cavers who believe our youth are our best investment in our future.
The next generation of cavers depend on what they experience now. The next generation of citizens will base their voting decisions on what they experience now.
