What if there is a fire in the cave?
Fires are very rare in caves, simply because there is usually no fuel source. In a few rare cases people have found or brought wood or other fuel into caves and started fires. This can be extremely dangerous and has resulted in deaths due to carbon monoxide poisoning, oxygen deprivation, and smoke inhalation. You should promptly leave any cave that smells like smoke or has other evidence of recent fire. In caves with limited ventilation, carbon monoxide (which is odorless ond colorless) or other hazardous fumes could remain for many days after the fire has been extinguished.
