Woot's sale yesterday had them for $17.99 + 5.00 shipping. The discussion had several comments about water resistant/proofing, which was never settled. I got one. Out west we worry more about dust than water. They seem to have much brighter beam than my Apex.

Older Apex is only 80 lumen and this is 100 lumens. I'm sure you know that you can modify the Apex for about 15 dollars and 20 mins time so it is 130 lumen like the New Apex. This energizer does look like a good backup light that you can throw around inside your pack. And the new Apex is 60-70 dollars....MMmm looks like a good deal.

I have one and have been using it along with my Dosun H1 for about 1.5 years now. I love the Energizer, very robust. When I know I'm going to be in some nasty shit, I go for the Energizer over anything else. The only thing that could make it better was if the 5mm LED's were white instead of green/red. But then the light was built for construction and such, not caving.

good to know, i picked one up on the woot sale as a backup for my fenix

I'm caving in mostly dry caves in southern united states, and was all set to buy a HP-10 as my primary; that is until this puppy came along. As a student on a serious budget, who only occasionally is in wet caves (no water falls in my future), I'm thinking real hard about buying two of these energizers instead of the Fenix I was saving up for.

Any thoughts?

Wait, you found "dry caves" in the South?? In TAG? Just how did you manage that one??

Sorry, Southwestern, NM and AZ, and by dry I meant relative to the TAG area caves.

Well i got the light in the mail yesterday.
Pros;
seems very sturdy
price point
bright
easy buttons
pre assembled
good battery compartment
diffuser, free and attached
cons;
light quality, the light throws some weird shadows
diffuser , the light is best used with the diffuser in place, when its down out of the way the edge throws just enough light into your eyes to get really annoying.
not water proof, at least not advertised or rated, however the battery compartment at least has some sort of o ring so maybee water resistant

overall
I think it's a great light for the money I paid
very happy with the value and product, but for $30 your not gonna get something on par with an apex, fenix, or duo.


eta I would recommend this product to any budget minded cheapskates like myself, and will report as soom as it gets into a cave

Take some sandpaper to the part of the diffuser that sticks out when stowed away, then put two coats of sharpie marker over the sanded area. The glare will be gone.

Also, I have found it to be quite water resistant.

I have bought 2 of these, and used 1 last weekend. It has the same issues as the Myo XP. a bit too spotty without the diffuser, but the diffuser makes it a bit dim. I got mine for $20 at buy.com though, so I would consider it a great backup light or even a primary if you're dedicating gear to several different cave areas. I took the strap off mine and put a plastic blade on it, and it worked great for reading instruments, due to the coiled cord.

New? Not even close. I bought mine nearly two years ago when I started caving. I still regularly use it in nasty caves, and for vertical.

Yes, ANOTHER headlamp question...

I own a Coleman Axis headlamp that has a high setting of 24 lumens for a runtime of 15 hours. It does what I need it to do, but still it's not quite bright enough for my liking. Also, I'd like to have something with a longer runtime.

I am a notorious cheap-o, and in my hours long search for a cheap headlamp I've come across a pretty good deal for an Energizer Hard Case headlamp for $20 including shipping. http://www.buy.com/prod/energizer-hard-case-professional-led-headlight/q/loc/111/214456052.html. On its highest setting, it has an output of 100 lumens for a runtime of 15 hours. Basically, this puts out four times as much light as my Axis for the same runtime.

My problem is I don't know what the lumens are for the low setting or how many hours it goes for on the low setting. I've looked all over but can't find the low setting specs. Does anyone know what these are?
