Inquiry on specifications for LED helmet lamps

Postby Tobias » Aug 2, 2009 12:17 pm

Hi,
I'm new in this forum. I live in Munich in Germany and do caving in large and very large caves in the alps (Austria). I started caving in 1964 - now I start to reduce the velocity on that, I'm 60 years old. Most of my caving live I used carbide lamps, but now these are megaout.

I'm member of an Austrian caving club which explores Hirlatzhoehle (about 96 km actually). We started work on developing optimized helmet mounted LED headlights. There is a thread in another forum http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=185217 which deals with technical questions and new solutions we work on.

We also did comparative tests of various commercial headlamps and our own homemade testdevices. As you will see here http://www.hirlatz.at/lampenvergleich_en.html, non of the commercial devices we tested is optimized at that time.

We started an inquiry http://www.hirlatz.at/umfrage/fragebogen_en.html to find out what cavers really need and in which direction the development of future headlamps especially for caving should go.

It would be nice if you could participate in this poll, it may help to improve future development of commercial headlamps. Neither me nor any other member of our caving club have commercial interests, we are definitly not manufacturer of sports equipment. But we are users of those devices and we prefer to get better suited stuff for our cave expeditiond in future!

Regards Tobias
