I have the Peet, its the best. You can't evenhear it working when you plug it in, so if you get one, don't be fooled into thinking that it isnt working ;)

Well that's all good and all... but leather has a nasty habit of stiffening up when it dries after being soaked so one would imagine that for the boots a good coat of mink oil would keep it all supple and flexing the gloves would help too.
This is presumably after washing?

I never wash my boots or gloves. spray them off with a hose yes, wash neh! Yes the leather does get stiff, but it loosens up quite fast when I put them on. however i wear those crappy $40 jungle combat boots, not about to rub them down with mink oil :)

I don't think I know any cavers that use leather gloves for horizontal caving (obviously everyone uses leather for rappelling). Most of us are wearing those cloth gloves with the latex-dipped palms. I usually launder mine along with my polypro undersuit stuff.

I gave up leather a while back. It just doesn't hold up and is annoying when it gets stiff. Rubber boots and rubber gloves for me. Even when on rope. :yikes: :waving:

Ever been lava tube caving?? :yikes: The cave surfaces in Hawaii are nastier than most on the mainland. However it's almost completely dry, so any moisture in the gloves is probably sweat. So no need for glove dryers.

Ooh, good call. No, I haven't been, but I can see leather being an option there.

So, who are the boot/glove dryers for? Dudes who are going to get their boots wet, and cave 2 days in a row, and don't want to put wet boots back on? I suppose I qualify for all 3, except that I wear neoprene/fleece booties under my $20 combat boots and just put on a dry pair of booties for day 2. I mean, hell, chances are I'm just going to get 'em wet again anyway!

So, who are the boot/glove dryers for?

I know it is hard for this crowd to believe, but gloves and boots can be used for activities other than caving! :yikes: :frymyhide:  Amazing as it sounds, it is true. :big grin: For example, it'd sure be nice to be able to dry boots and thick gloves wet from a romp in the snow or day's hike in the rain before packing them away or putting them on the next day.

My latest activity is trying to clear all the ice storm debris from my driveway. We made about 1/4mi. of progress yesterday all the while trudging through chunks of loose ice up to 4" thick. Not only is it hard to walk and use a saw in that crap, it's melting and there's ice water running down the hill under the ice that soaks your footwear. I'm looking at my Merrills on my Peet dryer knowing I'll be able to start again in a few hours with dry feet. I've had mine for about ten years now and it's a great thing. I bought the extensions to use for waders and it worked well for those too.

Talking about caves and caving.

Showing photos/videos of caving.

Discussing other cavers we know and love.

Playing show and tell with caving gear and gadgets.

... oh, wait a minute. That's what I just spent the day doing, sitting here with a cave not 20 feet from the front door. :big grin:

I always used the boot/shoe dryer for my hiking boots, winter boots, and work boots. Now that I go caving, i use it for that too. I only go once a week though.
