I am seriously thinking about getting a LavaCore suit as my next "wetsuit". Does anyone have any experience or reviews of their gear?

It is supposed to be about the same warmth of a 3mm wetsuit, but provides superior flexibility.

Never tried them or any of the others that have a fleece lining. But, I want to. How much do they run?

Pants are $100, and the full suit (with the key double zipper feature) about $200. I am going to get either the pants or the suit. Haven't decided yet.

They'll get a good field test next week on a 4 day cave camp in a wet cave. Will report on results back here after New Year's.

Cheers,

Aaron

Cheap decent suits, I bought myself a farmer John set, gives me 6mm in the core and 3 in the limbs. I used it in Penn Aqua, 44? degree water? Plenty warm.

The lavacore suit did well on a recent 4 day camp trip. It did well on abrasion resistance (I wore shorts over it), it dries quickly and is very easy to move around in while caving.

Cons would include not quite as much warmth as you would want in 54 deg. water. I was able to wear a polypro top under the suit with no problem though, and that seemed to help quite a lot. Overall I would say this would be a great choice for TAG or Texas wet caves. Less so for points north with colder water, especially if you are doing slower activities such as surveying.

Cheers,

AA
