Took it out last night on a trip and it was like the difference between putting on and taking off a pair of glasses! It did an outstanding job. I am very happy with this light. I actually was unable to use the high setting of the spot LED because the glare coming back off the walls was too bright.

yeah, this is pretty much the only thing i'm even considering as a primary lamp right now. i'd love a stenlight as much as the next guy, but it costs 5x as much.

yeah, this will not be my primary light. Im still a little concerned about the waterproofness of the apex, so for now my trusty DUO will remain my primary.

My only gripe thus far is that it absolutely torches alkaline batteries. I have used it in 3 caves, and have changed the batteries about 4 times. The first time, I had the energizers it came with in it. I mostly used the flood on high, but would occasionally turn on the spots for looking around, etc and got about a total of 4 hours before the dreaded blink and red dot. The second set were probably weak already, as they came out of the plastic box of loose batteries I carry in my pack. Got about an hour out of them. After that, I put 4 new Rayovacs in it and they lasted about 2 hours. Maybe I am not using a good quality alkaline, but I think I will try a set of Lithiums and see if that helps.

I did that when I first got mine too.

Keep using the light once it starts blinking. It will only go through 2-3 blink cycles and then stay steady. You will have a couple more hours of usable light.

Change the batteries when it starts to look dim. Just like any other light.

I generally get 7-8 hours of use (similar to what you are doing) out of mine.
Caves are rare and precious things. Cavers...even more so. Treat each accordingly.

Postby RNagot » Jul 12, 2007 3:51 pm

just ordered four from blue lake tackle

http://www.bluelaketackle.com/advanced_ ... words=apex

54.96 each, OD grean with a camo strapping, they have a "make an offer link" and after I emailed them with my offer they gave me $10.00 off the total, so 52.46 each.

it pays to shop around

Fashion conscious cavers. Fashion is their passion! But, guys, it's pitch black down there!

And I second RB. Ignore the stoopid blinking warning light - a couple of hours are still left.

The well-dressed caver.
