This is long time problem with knee pads I have.
They are either twisting, or if I close straps tightly, strap rips apart. I went thru Long Daves, GGGs, 661 4x4s, numerous hardware store pads. Then I realized that with money i spent on kneepads I could buy new coverall and more, so I just insert pad in knee pocket of my meander suit, then wrap it with duct tape and presto.

Gosh I almost missed a discussion of one of my favorite subjects.
I'll try and catch up.
Bombers: Love em. I keep thinking my old one's will blow out but they never have. The edge trim is long gone, but that center cordura part is holding well. Never had any issues with the velcro. I just don't take them off so mud never gets a chance to enter the closure surfaces.
GGG: I bought a pair secondhand. They seemed ok once i figured out the closures, but I liked the speed of my bombers so I gave them to my SWMBO. She liked them but had lots of trouble getting them on. The problem was manipulating those buckles thru the D rings. Very difficult for small handed people. Add some cold weather and it becomes almost impossible.
She went and bought some of those from Howie and loves them so far. I do to, because I no longer have to help put on the knee pads before every trip. I have since gotten the Ebay Long Bombers and those are now my favorites. If they ever wear out, I'll be trying some Dirty Daves next.

I'm sold on my dirty daves so far. I realize that the velcro can be a pain when it gets wet and muddy, but so far it hasn't been a problem for me. They stay in place real good and don't wander around your leg. Top of that, they make you feel like an indestructible football player!!

I do need to find a knee pad that sits higher up above my knee than my bombers. Mine now often get caught on rock when i am crawling, what a pain.

Bonny and I helped field test Howies's new pads and Bonny even came up with the name "Howitzers" for them. They are nice pads, I like them better than Bombers. The clasp has never come loose like the Home Depot ones do. The post is metal, not plastic.

Thanks for letting me know that the clasp is superior to the HOme Depot ones I complained about earlier in the thread.

I looked at the Howitzers and foresee the cross-stitching on the front seams wearing out, just like it did on Bombers. Some three-inch wide Type 9 webbing down the front would solve that.

Wendy - check out Crawl Daddies (sold by IMO). The are tapered at the top to hug your leg to avoid that gap you are referring to. I know the developers of those pads personally and when they were making prototypes I complained about just the problem you mentioned.
