Carbide - smells good or smells bad?

Postby graveleye » May 1, 2007 10:56 am

Just curious... you like the smell or hate it?

truthfully, I am not too fond of the smell, but I'm not as used to it as some of you folks and don't have a plethora of good times associated with the scent.

I know - weird topic, but I'm weird, so there.

I voted "indifferent." I can't say I think it smells "good." I mean I put perfume on my wrists in the morning, and I sure wouldn't put carbide there. But carbide smells like "cave." It seems "right" for going caving. I don't find it offensive at all. So it's almost "good" but not quite.

It stinks. And I find it ironic that some people who say it smells good will be the first to bitch about the smell of cigarette smoke.

Common cigarette smoke is acrid like burning coffee paper. Cigar smoke--can you say wet, rancid underwear or teabags on fire?

Now pipe tobacco smoldering, or kinnickkinnick-- or unfiltered Camels--yum...and I'm a non-smoker.

Carbide smells like welding to me. And I have good memories of welding.

If there was carbide cologne, I'd wear it!! Actually, that's about all I smell like right now anyway. Just got done bringing home 50lbs and filling up my barrel. Mmmmm... I smell good!!!

I think the smell of carbide is great!!! without that smell it would not be caving. one whiff of it and i have a flashback to every cave Ive been too. And i don't think it has anything to do with cigarette smoke because it is not overpowering like cigarette smoke.. i don't like cigarette smoke but love carbide and never bitch about it..
Man i sure do like caving.....

That sounds like a good way to attract a caver.

Does that mean if I try using carbide I might actually go on a date before I die?
