Modified Stenlight Passaround for Stenlight users.

Postby JonSidneyB » Mar 1, 2007 3:18 am

There is a modified Stenlight that I want to pass around.

Yvonne Droms currently has it. I agreed to let her hold onto it until she can go underground with it and then she will send it off to the next person to see.

How to do this passaround? Well I will need a list of people that already have a Stenlight so they can compare the modified version to the stock version. It would be nice if this could hop from grotto to grotto so that a wider range of people can see it.

If you are interested in seeing this modified Stenlight post your desire to have a look.

I just ask that you post your comments about the light when you get a chance to test it.

Thanks
Jon

What mods does it have? Just reflectors or something else?

There are a bunch of Sten users here in Central / Southern AZ. I know *I'm* interested.

Does this one have the mod to the reflector / optics?

This one is brighter and more efficient.

I will be biased in what ever I saw so that is why I think passarounds are good. It gets other people to say the good and the bad.

Yvonne is testing it now so we will be able to eventually see her thoughts then the thoughts of all of you.

Thanks

Yes in conjuction with the reflectors and a bit a tweaking.
With the higher point sourse of light you get a different kind of beam.

I will keep making relfectors available and want to experiment with a variety of beam profiles. Soon we want to start providing modification services as well.

I will be a missing person until Monday evening so I will be slow at answering questions about the reflectors until I get back.

Jon sent me a prototype of his newest upgrade and I tested it out in my living room and outside in the yard. I already had the reflectors installed, and liked them, so I was curious to see in which way this new upgrade could possibly improve the StenLight more.
Even though Jon had not told me anything about what to expect, I was immediately impressed by the improvement. The transition between the two beams is smoother, so the center does not "blind" me or distract me anymore. It is definitely brighter in each of the settings, both for throw (far away) and for spread (close up and peripheral). At the highest setting it showed better detail on the faraway trees than the regular reflectored Stenlight (which I used as a comparison). It's the best of all possible combinations so far! I'm going caving in a week, and can't wait to test it out "for real". Thanks for striving to perfect our caving world, Jon! -Yvonne Droms

I'll volunteer to test it out. I have a Sten and like Evan, am plotting to add a second to my gear pile. There are actually quite a few Stenliters in the Kansas City Area Grotto and also in the Missouri Speleo Survey, my buds are all "beginning to see the light."

Hmmm this volunteer list is getting so long, maybe I'll just employ Jon to mod mine after I get a few reports here. Been so busy at work lately I can't cave anyway :hairpull:
